Dali is 27 and produces serrano chilli peppers in Mexico. Anderson Ricardo is 33 and has a coffee business in Brazil. Dali and Ricardo are two young South-American representatives of the new generation of #EarthDefenders at the centre of the photographs in the 2016 Lavazza Calendar, “From Father To Son”, produced in collaboration with Slow Food.
In fact, Lavazza and Slow Food have been working alongside one another since 1996 to disseminate a food culture based on quality and attention to the sustainability of the production process. A shared journey that over the years has become a series of projects supporting small communities of growers, who are pursuing virtuous development projects throughout the world.
As the event’s Official Partner, Lavazza will lead the workshop “Innovations, climate and sustainability: the future of coffee in the hands of young growers and producers” (Monday 5 October, via Privata Cuccagna 2 – from 2.30p.m. to 6p.m.) with Mario Cerutti, Lavazza’s Green Coffee & Corporate Relations Director, who will attend alongside Carlo Petrini, Founder of Slow Food, and Francesco Torrigiani, Oxfam Italy’s Manager for Central America and the Caribbean area.
The topics for discussion include: the effects of climate change on coffee production; the new techniques and new approaches introduced by young coffee growers; and the importance of a sustainable approach in terms of benefits for the local communities. The Lavazza Calendar is being sold as a limited edition in order to support the Slow Food Youth Network's event, as well as the projects the young people will work on afterwards.
