Lavazza celebrated its 120th anniversary with a leap towards the future and launched the first espresso into space.
Lavazza’s outlook has always been towards the future and, in 2004, the calendar created by Thierry Le Gouès imagined coffee in space. This dream came true just ten years later when the Italian espresso boarded the International Space Station.
Lavazza, Argotec and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) developed ISSpresso, the first coffee machine in space. Lavazza also funded research into the Arabica coffee genome.
The 2015 calendar, made with Slow Food and designed by Steve McCurry, is a photographic journey into the stories of the daily heroism of the Earth Defenders; 12 portraits of women and men who every day defend their projects in Africa with courage, pride and dedication.
